ENG vs IND | Twitter in splits as Akash Deep corrects shot in shadow after being dropped

We often see batters shadow practice to get into the zone during their innings, and Indian pacer Akash Deep exactly did that during the Oval Test against England. He played away from the body and got dropped in the slip cordon before immediately shadow-batting to correct his mistake.

‌India had a good start to the proceedings on day three of the final Test at The Oval in London with overnight batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Akash Deep extending their partnership. The pair added 30 runs in the first seven overs without losing a wicket to add to the home side’s frustration.

Night Watchman Akash Deep started aggressively with a wild heave over off Jacob Bethell over wide long-on in just the third ball of the day. The pacer looked comfortable during his stay in the middle as he scored boundaries off pacers Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue.

Opener Jaiswal was also very vocal during the partnership as he walked down to have a chat with the pacer after almost every ball to ease his nerves. But in a lapse of concentration, Akash went for a full-blooded Virat Kohlisque cover drive in the third ball of the 26th over from Tongue.

He swiped at a delivery that was pitched outside off and on a good length and was fortunate to get dropped by Zak Crawley. He immediately realised his mistake before coming up with corrective action in a short shadow practice after the ball.

He pushed his front foot forward, leaning into the drive, and brought his front shoulder in alignment to complete the shadow just as Jaiswal walked in again. He reminded Akash about the length and told him it was not close enough for a cover drive. The pacer acknowledged the fact and hugged the young left-handed batter in agreement.

Twitter was impressed with Akash’s batting avatar as he went on to complete his maiden half-century in Test cricket.

The hug at the end!
